Product Key During iTools installation you will be asked for a Product Key. The key is a 20-character value in the format 01234-56789-ABCDE-F0123. You will find this number on the back of the CD case. The Product Key determines which iTools features are enabled.If you enter no Product Key, or an incorrect Product Key, iTools will install with Configuration Software available, as well as other features in Demo mode. This will apply where iTools was downloaded from the Eurotherm web site. The PC must be set to at least 65536 colors. At least 1 GB RAM is required (or the minimum specified by Microsoft if greater).Note: Installation must be performed by a user having Administrator privileges. Localization The mechanism for setting the runtime language of iTools has been modified. As before, the default is to use the locale defined for Windows, but this may now be overridden through the Localization tab of the server settings dialog in the iTools OPC Server.The feature has become increasingly difficult to set up correctly due to changes in Windows, and would not have performed will with more feature-rich instruments such as versadac. DDE server in OPC Scope This little-used feature of OPC Scope has been removed. DDE has long been deprecated by Microsoft and has become increasingly difficult to support reliably. Alternative transports based on OPC should be used. Changes since Version 8.76 EPack Power Controller iTools now supports the EPack power controller version 2.02, including a new discovery protocol for rapid network location of EPack devices. This discovery protocol uses Bonjour zero-configuration networking. This caused an issue when programs were later loaded via FTP or a USB stick, as the device program retained the same name as it had prior to loading. This is resolved in iTools 8.76. Clone file changes for 3216 Changes were made to the default clone file templates for 3216 to prevent the OP3 list erroneously appearing on the simulated device panel. This applied only where the decimal separator character on the computer was set to be something other than the point (.) character. This is resolved in iTools 8.73. In addition, previous versions of iTools had an issue that could prevent values in the Program Parameters list from being set when loading a program in the Programmer Editor. Terminal Wiring Editor Previous versions included a problem whereby the Terminal Wiring editor would show the wrong pinout for an RS422 module on 3216 controllers. Programmer Editor Previous versions included a problem in the Programmer editor with handling of GoBack settings for 3500 series dual sync mode. There was also a problem with setting up of Call segments during 2400 series off-line configuration. These issues are now resolved. Changes since Version 7.10 EPower Controller iTools now supports the EPower controller version 2.02, plus 32h8e remote display unit version 1.00. View Builder Support for Additional OPC Servers iTools View Builder may now be used to create Views for any OPC Data Access 2.0 server. This selection is made from the Edit menu for a newly created View, before any components have been placed. Each View still operates in the context of a single OPC server only. Resolution for Mini8 Multi-dropping Issue Versions 7.00 and 7.10 of iTools included a problem whereby a scan operation would find only one out of multiple Mini8 controllers on a multi-dropped communications link. This is resolved in iTools 7.20. Fix for Windows Registry Problem A fault in the iTools setup program for versions 7.00 and 7.10 sometimes led to a Windows Registry key being deleted in error during uninstallation or upgrade of iTools. This issue is resolved in iTools 7.20. However, installing iTools 7.

20 may still expose the problem when upgrading from iTools 7.00 or 7.10. A workaround is to manually backup this Registry key prior to the upgrade, and restore it when the upgrade is complete. This is resolved in iTools 7.20. Graphical Wiring Editor Several minor problems with the iTools Graphical Wiring Editor have been resolved. Changes since Version 7.00 EPower Controller iTools now supports the EPower controller version 2.00. 3200 Series Devices Support is added for 3200 series controllers versions 2.12 and 2.32 (VP). Clearer Display of Device Synchronization State The device list panel of iTools Engineering Studio now shows a specific icon for devices which are not yet synchronized. This information is useful because some iTools editors are not available until synchronization is complete. Note: a synchronized device is one for which iTools has extracted all key configuration information into its internal parameter database. OPC Scope Decimal Places OPC Scope now provides an option for controlling the number of displayed decimal places, similar to that found in iTools Engineering Studio. Resolution for Multi-dropping Issue Version 7.00 introduced a problem whereby iTools may not successfully connect to all instruments on a multi-dropped (e.g. RS485) communications link. Graphics copied and pasted into other programs (e.g. Microsoft Word) sometimes suffered from font scaling problems, making the copied diagram difficult to interpret. This is resolved in iTools 7.10. Resolution for 2704 User Pages Editor Issue Version 7.00 introduced a problem with the 2704 User Pages Editor when running on Windows XP or Windows Vista. The faceplate view within this editor would frequently not highlight the available and selected fields. This is resolved in iTools 7.10. Changes since Version 6.52.2 Graphical Wiring Editor support for Compounds Within iTools Engineering Studio, the Graphical Wiring Editor now allows wiring diagrams to be split across multiple nested pages.

This concept is known as Compounding: within the main page, a selected group of blocks and wires may be converted into a Compound. OPC Compliance iTools OPC Server has been tested successfully by Eurotherm using the OPC Data Access 2.05a Compliance Test tool. The readout cursor is activated by double-clicking in the chart whilst in review mode. Changes in supported Windows versions Usage on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista is now supported. Support for Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows NT 4.0 is now withdrawn. Theming support on Windows XP and Windows Vista Most iTools programs will now make use of the theming support built into Windows XP and Windows Vista, where enabled. As a result, small changes have been made to the layout of some iTools screens. View Builder A problem has been resolved that caused iTools View Builder to generate access violation errors on some systems. 3500 Series Devices Support is added for 3500 series controllers version 2.70. Changes since Version 6.52.1 Model 2604 Controller iTools now supports the Eurotherm model 2604 controller, version 6.30. Mini8 Controller iTools now supports the Eurotherm Mini8, version 2.30. Programmer Editor The Programmer Editor is updated for 3500 version 2 release, including dual programmer modes. User Pages Editor The User Pages Editor is updated for 3500 version 2 release. 3200 Series Devices Within iTools Engineering Studio, the 3200 series Flash Memory editor now allows Recipe editing. Similarly, Configuration Wizards for 3200 series devices now include a new tab allowing Recipe editing. The new horizontal format 32h8 controller is fully supported, including the Device Panel and Terminal Wiring views. Installation iTools icons on the Windows program menu are now positioned in a “Eurotherm” folder rather than a “Eurotherm iTools” folder. Changes since Version 5.66 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Terminal Wiring Editor iTools Engineering Studio includes a new Terminal Wiring Editor. This shows rear terminal connections for the following device types: 2200 series, 2400 series, 2604, 2704, 3100 series, 3200 series, 3500 series. Configuration Wizards The opening screens of the iTools Configuration Wizards have been redesigned for improved ease of use. In addition, the Configuration Wizards are now available from within the iTools Engineering Studio application. Graphical Wiring Editor This editor now offers full support for 2604, 2704 and X26 controllers, version 5.00 and later. A number of other enhancements have been made, including: New color scheme which matches the LINtools defaults wherever possible. All changes undoable and redoable. The undo information is cleared on saving to a 3508, 3504 or Mini8. Hint for a wired input shows the name of the parameter it is wired from. Hint for a wired output shows the names of all the parameters it is wired to. When placing new wires the auto wire routing is improved. Toggles the tags state of attached wires. Major performance improvements. Mouse drag while holding the spacebar or the shift key scrolls the diagram.

If there is a parameter help window open, mouse over a monitor changes the help to that parameter’s help. Monitors now have a parameter help context menu entry. This may lead to unreliable operation. Programmer Editor A number of minor usability enhancements have been made. Help File and Manual iTools includes a comprehensive new help file. The same information is also included in a new manual: this document is available in Acrobat PDF format on the iTools CD-ROM. This ensures safe communications between iTools and the controller when operating via a MODBUS TCP gateway, or any other situation where there is a potential for multiple simultaneous MODBUS masters. This document is included on the iTools CD-ROM. The change means that the iTools Parameter Explorer view and Parameter Information dialog now show the address of the parameter in the instrument’s SCADA table, where applicable. For parameters which are not present in the SCADA table, no address is shown. The advantage of this approach is that the SCADA table address is generally invariant between instrument versions, whereas the addresses used internally by iTools are subject to change. Changes since Version 5.56 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Changes since Version 5.50 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Performance of the Programmer Editor has been improved for 3500 series controllers, and additional minor corrections have been made to both editors. New Dedicated Cloning Utility: iClone iClone is a new utility which allows cloning to and from instruments. It does not allow any other form of direct editing. Changes since Version 5.00 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Most of the changes in this version are to the iTools Engineering Studio application. Graphical Wiring Editor For configuration of the 3504 and 3508 controllers, iTools 5.50 offers an advanced Graphical Wiring Editor.

The Graphical Wiring Editor (GWE) is the default editing view for these devices, and we recommend users work through this view rather than the Parameter Explorer. The GWE groups the instrument parameters into function blocks. A function block type is a definition of those parameters which make up a unit of instrument functionality; examples are a control loop and a mathematical calculation. In most cases a function block includes all the parameters in an iTools list and it’s sublists. Each function block has inputs and outputs. Any parameter may be used as an output, while there are some restrictions on which parameters may be used as a block input. In the same way, textual Comments and Monitor points may be dropped into the diagram. Monitors show live values of parameters and may be used for diagnostic purposes. Changes made through the GWE are not downloaded to the instrument immediately. For setting values on blocks, a Function Block View (similar to the Parameter Explorer) may be launched by double-clicking the header of any block. 3500 User Page Editor A new editor is included for configuring the User Pages capability of the 3504 and 3508 controllers. Device Recipe Editor A new editor is included for configuring the Device Recipe capability of the 3504 and 3508 controllers. In-place Editing Most of the iTools Engineering Studio editors, including the Parameter Explorer, now allow in-place editing of parameter values. This removes the need for launching an edit dialog, and is therefore quicker and more convenient. Device Information View A new dialog shows summary information about a device. This includes its firmware version and any clone file associated with it, as well as communications parameters. For Ethernet enabled devices, information such as the device’s IP address and physical Ethernet (MAC) address are also shown. View Builder The View Builder now allows the number of displayed decimal places to be set for floating-point numeric values.

A new TimeEdit component type allows time type values to be displayed and edited in a more representative manner. Configuration Wizards For configuration of the 3116 and 3216 controllers, iTools 5 offers new Configuration Wizards.View Builder iTools View Builder is a new product option, providing the ability to create custom displays to run on the PC. Programmer Editor The Programmer Editor now supports the asynchronous programmer option of the 2704 controller version 6.00. This applies both to the integrated and the standalone versions of the editor.The features of the instrument which are configured in this way include Text Messages, Recipe Definition, and Parameter Promotion. Model 2500 Controller iTools now supports the Eurotherm model 2580 controller, version 3.56, and the model 25F0 controller, version 4.21. MODBUS TCP Slave The MODBUS TCP slave capability is now incorporated into the Open OPC Server feature of iTools. Changes since Version 4.10 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Model 2408i Indicator iTools now supports 2408i indicator, version 3.02. Model 2500 Controller iTools now supports the Eurotherm model 2580 controller, version 3.43, and the model 25F0 controller, version 4.10. Model X26 Controller iTools now supports the Eurotherm model X26 temperature and humidity controller, version 5.20. User Pages Editor iTools now includes an editor for the User Pages feature of 2704 devices. This is accessed from within the main iTools program, as an additional device view. Parameter Properties The Parameter Properties dialog in iTools is now modeless, meaning that the dialog may be left open while navigating around iTools. Throughout most of iTools, when a particular parameter is selected, the Parameter Properties dialog will be updated accordingly. Option for Faster Cloning When cloning to or from a device, the first step taken by iTools is normally to upload values for all device parameters.

This is to ensure that iTools is working with a completely up-to-date set of data. This operation can be lengthy, and greatly adds to the overall time to complete the cloning operation. A new option has been added to speed up cloning. This takes advantage of the fact that, in general, iTools remains fully synchronized with connected devices at all times. If this assumption is made, it is not necessary to perform the upload of all parameter values as the first step of the cloning operation. The user can choose whether or not to assume that iTools is always synchronized with connected devices, or whether to ask prior to each cloning operation. Note that for certain device types, notably 2604 and 2704 series, iTools is not able to take advantage of this option. Automatic Naming of Devices The iTools OPC Server now provides options for the automatic naming of devices found during network scans. These options (available from the Server Settings dialog), allow for the device version, or version and type, to be omitted from the generated device name. MODBUS TCP Slave The iTools OPC Server now includes a MODBUS TCP slave capability, further extending the options for using Eurotherm products in networked environments. This option is disabled by default, and must be purchased separately. Note: all copies of iTools include MODBUS TCP master functionality. Programmer Editor The performance of the Programmer Editor has been enhanced when handling 2400 series programs which include sub-program calls.For example, iTERM could be used to launch the OPC server and start network scanning from a particular MODBUS address. It might also be used as part of a solution to automate cloning operations. Please note that iTERM is aimed at experienced users of iTools, and is not needed for general use. Changes since Version 4.00 This section identifies the major changes to iTools.

It is expected that future versions of these products will implement Modbus TCP in a way which is entirely backwards compatible with version 1.6, so that these too should be supported by this iTools version. Cloning Problem with 2200e Series Controllers Corrected a problem with cloning of alarm values when a device’s temperature units were set to Fahrenheit or Kelvin. Series 2000 Programmer Editor Some usability improvements have been made. Help for the Programmer Editor is now included in the main iTools help file. Configure by Ordering Codes This prototype application now supports some additional devices: 2116i and 2132i indicators, 2408i indicator version 3.00, and 2416 controller version 4.09. Handling of the optional pricing files has also been improved. This includes a fix for a problem whereby some prices were omitted, in the case where the option to fill in fields using default values was selected.Changes since Version 3.00 This section identifies the major changes to iTools. Series 2000 Programmer Editor A new Programmer Editor is included. This provides support for programmer editing for the 2400 series, and 2604 and 2704. It may be launched as a separate application, or as a View within iTools. For more information see the help file provided with the standalone copy of the Programmer Editor. User Authorization (Optional) It is now possible to set passwords to protect access to iTools. This is done through the iTools applet in the Windows Control Panel. If set, the Operator (Level 1) password must be entered in order to run iTools, OPC Scope, or the OPC server. The Engineering (Level 2) password must be entered in order to perform operations in iTools which require switching instruments into their Configuration Access Level.
